Santa gets a ’24 carrots’ letter from the JQ

Dear Santa,

We hope this letter finds you well. Sorry we have been so late in writing, but us Carroteers have been ever so busy with our festive markets we just didn’t have the time! Now that our markets are over for the year, we are catching up on all the crucial things- and Santa, boy are you important!

We hope that when you check your naughty and nice list on Christmas Eve, we rank high on the nice list, but just in case you aren’t sure we said we would let you know what we have been up to this year!

Well our market last Saturday was a huge success; despite the cold and the rain- we had 23 stalls, selling everything from sprouts to vegan chocolate mousse! Oh and we had a stunning local brass band playing gorgeous Christmas carols to keep us all festive. Do you remember how in 2010 we became a co-operative? Well, this year we held our very first AGM! We’ve been working hard on getting more stallholders to complement our existing all star line-up; the likes of Lucky13 bakery, Kristian’s farm, Miss Macaroon and the many other new stalls all have high ethical values, strive for good quality and are small companies trying to do a good job- we think this fits in with our ethos quite well! We’ve also tried very hard to get entertainment and to think of things to keep the kids entertained! We have had live music, face painting, circus tricks, egg decorating, biscuit decorating and all sorts of fun activities! Also, the Pop Up Market had its very first stall this month; a great example of social enterprise and giving people opportunities- thank you Cloudberry!

And now that we have told you what good has happened in 2011, what we would like for Christmas this year I hear you ask? Well, we’d like to thank everybody who has supported us; be that by attending, volunteering their time and their ideas, those who have helped the funding, our amazing stallholders, local businesses who support us- just everybody really! So Santa, can you please make sure they all have an extra nice stocking this year? And, if possible, can we have more of the same for 2012; more successful markets, more amazing stallholders, more local, artisan, quality produce and more entertainment. Oh! And Santa, please remember to bring better weather for 2012- the thermals you got us for last year weren’t quite up to scratch!

P.S we’ve left Rudolf and the reindeers some green top carrots and we have left you some locally brewed ale and scrummy cupcakes
as an advanced thanks!

Your ever so jolly Carroteers,

The 24 Carrots Committee
