Just a quick heads up to let you all know that the next instalment of St. Paul’s Film Club is this coming Monday (29th July) with the eagerly anticipated, Oscar nominated, ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild‘, a thrilling fantasy/drama about a six year old girl living in a ramshackle bayou community who must contend with the fading health of her hot-tempered father and the floods and devastation caused by the melting ice caps.
St Paul’s Film club started as the brainchild of Reverend Mary Gilbert in January this year after successful events such as the screening of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and Luc Besson’s ‘Angel-A’ at the 24 Carrots Christmas Market as well as the stunningly creepy showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ as part of the Jameson’s Cult Film Club. Run monthly, Mary has chosen some of her favourite films for your viewing pleasure so far this this year with many more gems to come. Starting with ‘Monty Python’s Life of Brian’ in January, which had everyone singing along to ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ at the end and howling with laughter throughout, St Paul’s Film Club aims to screen some of the hidden gems and classics of cinema.
The Film Club usually takes place on the last Monday of the month (dates and films below) starting at 7:30p.m., with entry at the incredibly reasonable price of £5. Refreshments are provided and all proceeds go towards the upkeep of the church.
Hope to see you there!
