As 2016 opens, so will one of the Jewellery Quarter’s newest developments. Part of the development of Newhall Square, the new Staycity Aparthotel is located on Charlotte Street, next to the Travelodge hotel and the newly opened Co-op.
Staycity, who already operate an Aparthotel in The Arcadian Centre, have spent £17 million on creating 170 one and two bedroom serviced apartments overlooking the canal. They will be hoping to tap into the developing market of people who want the luxury of their own flat for short stay and business trips, instead of a traditional hotel.
The project has not been without delays. The construction has been ongoing well over 12 months, and was stalled part way through the year due to the main contractor, GB Building Solutions, going into administration. New contractors were appointed in July, and work has been ongoing ever since.
Staycity comes ahead of the planned extension of the Bloc Hotel on Caroline Street, who will be adding a further 31 Aparthotel rooms to their current 73 traditional bedrooms.
At the time of writing, the official launch date for Staycity Newhall Square was 18 January 2016, although their website gives an opening date of 1 March 2016.
