Coffin Works is delighted to be hosting an historic mini fundraising festival, organised by students from University College Birmingham. They are raising money for Fisher House, a ‘home away from home’ for military patients and their families on the site of Queen Elizabeth Hospital. A great cause and a great way to spend an evening listening to live music in the Courtyard, eating popcorn, candyfloss, different music in all the rooms of the museum – and a bar!

13 May, from 7pm
Please support them and have fun with us at the Coffin Works!

  • Tuesday 28th April – Friday 24th July
  • GAME OVER by Transient Art

We are really excited about our next exhibition – GAME OVER – curated by Transient-Art which runs from 28th April. Transient-Art is a small group of West Midlands based artists who creatively engage with contemporary artistic practice, displaying their work in non-traditional spaces. GAME OVER explores the stories and themes of the factory including death and the funeral trade.

Free admission to the exhibition during Newman Brothers opening times.

  • Saturday 16th May | 6 – 10pm
  • GAME OVER for Museums and Night

Transient-Art are taking over the Newman Brothers factory to show their work among the coffin handles, shrouds and historic machinery. Join us for a special evening event where visitors will be able to explore the factory of a one hundred year business which made the coffin furniture for the coffins of Sir Winston Churchill and the Queen Mother. Within the ‘time capsule’ rooms, which are left as if the workers had laid down their tools for their lunch break, you’ll be able to see the artwork, speak to the artists and enjoy a night time experience in this atmospheric Victorian factory. Fashion Students from Birmingham Metropolitan College will treat you to a fashion show in the Courtyard. Refreshments served.

Pay on Night. No need to book. Admission: Adults £3. Young Adults (aged 10-18) £1. Children under 10 FREE. All proceeds to the museum.
