The latest planning applications for the Quarter

The latest planning applications are in and there are a few juicy ones.  Click the planning application number links in the title and then click “view related documents” at the bottom:

2014/01487/PA Conversion to a mixed use building on Water St

This looks to be a good example of what the JQ should do more of.  Restoring the existing building and turning the workshop area into an extension that respects the original.  The living space looks a good size and it is a mixed use building which is surely the way forward for the Quarter?

2014/01940/PA A bungalow in the Quarter on Summer Hill Rd?

Ok, this is right on the edge of the JQ opposite the Mini showroom.  An unusual proposal but is it worthy of an area famed for its high quality heritage architecture?

2014/01632/PA Finally a use for the lovely Standard Works on Vittoria St!

It’s the big cream coloured building with purple doors and windows on perhaps the JQ’s most attractive street.  An education facility with public café and baker brought to you by the Ruskin Mill Trust, helping young people develop new skills.  It also has a Listed Building application on 2014/01633/PA.

2014/01838/PA A takeaway on George St

There are council policies on takeaways – what is the view of the JQ, particularly residents?  Rosella’s already has a hot food counter but this goes a step further and has ductwork on the front of the building.  Whatever will the neighbours think?

You can log your comments directly on the website or email planningandregenerationenquiries@birmingham.gov.uk and quote the application number.  Do let us know your thoughts by commenting here or tweeting @JQNF so your JQNF can make representations too.
